THINGS TO BRING:
FABRIC
4.5 metres cotton mix or rayon fabric, 140cm wide. FABRIC: Cotton fabric (medium or light weight) is easiest to work with because it holds its shape and stays in place while you sew, especially if you are a beginning sewist. Rayon is light and drapey which makes the fabric a little bit tricky to hold in place while you sew. Tip – black fabric with black stitching is not recommended for first time sewing as it is difficult to see where you have stitched and frustrating to unpick. Fabric discounts available at Fab Fabrics, 146 Harris Rd, East Tamaki.
THREAD
Good quality thread, brand Gutterman. Tip – good quality, new thread is best for your sewing machine. It doesn’t tangle up and sews smoother. Do not use old thread.
SEWING KIT
Scissors – sharp, for cutting fabric
Pins – sharp, with heads (easier & safer to hold)
Seam ripper / quick unpick
Tape measure – flexible enough to wrap around your body
Paper –a notebook is useful (write down lots of great tips for future reference)
Pencil
Ruler
Tailors chalk
Sewing machine and instruction book
