About Us

Annually around 100,000 people make use of UXBRIDGE – either participating in classes, workshops, programmes, events and exhibitions – or using UXBRIDGE as a base for community activities and hire.

Uxbridge Community Projects was founded, as an incorporated society, in 1981 when the former Howick Borough Council purchased the Uxbridge Presbyterian Church and associated buildings. The purpose of the society was to operate the facilities for the community, providing arts, and cultural activities.

There have been many changes since 1981. The Howick Borough Council was amalgamated into Manukau City in 1990 and then Manukau City was amalgamated into the Auckland Council in 2010.

Redevelopment of UXBRIDGE, by Auckland Council took place in 2015/16 but UXBRIDGE has remained an independent, not-for-profit organisation. Around one third of its funding comes from Auckland Council through the Howick Local Board but the remaining two-thirds has to be self-generated.

Recently the original incorporated society has transitioned to a more appropriate governance model known as the Uxbridge Community Charitable Trust comprising a small group of trustees meeting 4-6 times a year.
