In this workshop we will discuss the benefits and properties of different natural additives that can be used in soap making, such as herbs, roots, and spices. Participants must know the basics of cold process soap making or have done the basic soap making course to register for the advanced workshops. Each participant takes home their own handmade natural soaps.
Learn how to make your own solid shampoo bars and conditioner bars! They’re great for your hair, great for the environment and great for your pocket. Each participant will be able to take 2 shampoo and 1 conditioner homemade to their own specific hair type. If used properly, each bar is equivalent to about 2-3 bottles of shampoo.

Learning Spanish makes travelling to or working in the USA, Latin America, Spain and the Philippines a rich and rewarding experience. It will make a great addition to your skill-set and if you have a little knowledge and you’re keen to learn more then join our continuation course.
The cultures of Greece and Rome are the bedrock of modern Europe, and their languages have given rise to so many words in our English language. Knowing something of these languages adds depth to our understanding of English, both its vocabulary and its grammar. We will also look at the life and customs of the ancient world. Please indicate if you have a preference for one language or the other or if you are equally happy to study either, and accordingly one of the two will be selected for this course.

You will learn all the processes involved in making glass objects and make your own beautiful crystal glass bird or house tile if you’re a beginner and if you’ve been before then step it up and make a beautiful glass kete to take home for your window ledge or give as a gift. Simon draws on more than 30 years experience to help beginners with the basic construction of plain rings, stone-set rings, pendants and earrings and extends advanced students’ knowledge of design and construction. Want to make yourself a beautiful tightly woven cord to wear your pendants on with pride. In this workshop you will make a sample and then get started on your own unique Kumihimo braided cord. We’ll use 8 strands to create a round cord. The thinner the strands the thinner your cord will end up. Use leather, cotton, bamboo silk, ribbon or a combination of many.

We will go through two simple macrame techniques to wrap your chosen gemstone, and also look at braiding and fastening techniques to complete your very own necklace. Precious Silver Clay is a non-toxic, user-friendly substance that, once dried and fired, turns into pure silver. This introduction to the fascinating and beautiful art of glass fusing will teach you how to safely cut glass and then, using hot glass and diachroic glass, make jewellery of your own design. If there is time, we will also create a unique coaster for your cuppa or glass of tipple. All materials and tools are provided.

This class is designed to teach children realistic drawing techniques. New students will be introduced to basic drawing techniques and theory, such as proportion, shading and perspective. Students will initially work from provided images from tutor’s collection and then as they advance they will move onto their own chosen projects.

We’ll provide everything you need to complete your very first Bonsai along with lots of knowledge and information sharing to get you inspired with something new.
Want to turn your travel memories and into a treasured painting? Award-winning artist and illustrator, Ginette, will teach you to use ink pens and watercolour washes to capture a scene quickly while you are travelling. Theory and practical exercises for quick sketching and perspectives will be covered. Please bring your own travel photos!
Learn to paint or improve your practice! This fun, arts course is a variety of guided, practical sessions that help students develop their skills and paint-handling techniques. Work with acrylic or oil paints on a chosen project simple enough for an absolute beginner but challenging for those with some experience.

Whatever your preference landscape, portraits, architecture or still life… let’s do this! First we’ll use photo references to shape realistic drawings. You will learn about outline, texture, shape correction, lighting and shading. Then the focus can change (only if you prefer) to learning some of the fundamental techniques in developing line based sketches. Sound good?
The beautiful native Tui is our topic for today! You’re going to turn a ply wood cut-out into a beautiful piece of art. We will start by applying background paint also using familiar New Zealand scenes and we’ll use Maori kowhaiwhai stencils and gold paint to enhance it’s beauty.

We’re going to explore some ideas in a slightly surreal way in this workshop. You will imagine, draw and then use different mediums to create your masterpiece! This workshop will be lots of fun!

Aotearoa enjoys some of the most beautiful fish and ocean life in the world and some of this beauty lies beyond the beach so let’s explore all that lives in our sea. Create your own sea world, fantasy or real but what to include; kina or crayfish, whales & octopus, ika moana, seaweed & rocks. We’ll use dye, inks, paints and texture creating a work of art.
Suitable for ages 6 – 12 years.
During this workshop you will learn about the practices associated with Maori art, creating your own contemporary Toki bone carving, complete with binding and adjustable cord. You will be introduced to a massive new technical skill set through a design process that uses grinders, drills, wet and dry sanding and polishing tools. You will also learn binding and lashing traditions used throughout Polynesia.
Learn about the practices associated with Māori arts whilst creating a marama (moon) taonga in this one day workshop. Using diamond wheels, drills, wet and dry sanding, and polishing tools, participants will get to create a Marama pendant. Traditional Polynesian braiding and lashing techniques will complete the pendant ready to wear in this contemporary Tikanga based workshop. Suitable for ages 12+

This class is about freedom, growth and loosening up! Working on a personal project and need help or do you just need a break from school art to explore some of your own ideas? Every artist is different so let’s build and develop your style and confidence through learning technical skills including layout, composition and application of colour. We’ll discuss ideas, problem solve and have general discussions about art and artists.
Want to explore realistic oil painting? There are many challenges in capturing a likeness and Alvin is passionate in sharing his knowledge on how to achieve this. Alvin speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese so everybody welcome! We’ll get started using photo reference of human form, first learning the essentials in starting an oil portrait painting then moving on to the head structure and facial features, correct lighting, shading and colour choices. You can then move on to your own subjects and see great results.
It is recommended that you attend Alvin’s drawing or portrait oil painting class before joining this course. Alvin will give his instruction in both English and Chinese in the class.

Whatever the reason, Pilates is excellent for core conditioning, flexibility and overall fitness which helps to build balance and strength in all developing and growing bodies.
Stretch, tone, strengthen and lengthen for a stronger back and toned core protect you from injury and help keep you active and supple. Pilates is a system of exercises designed to enhance mental awareness and improve physical strength, flexibility and posture. Invest in your body: it pays great dividends!

In this workshop we’ll use landscape subjects to learn several impressionist techniques. You will then learn how to incorporate these into your own watercolour work. The painting technique fundamental to impressionism is ‘broken colour’ which gives the beautiful sensation of light in a painting.
