Delicious, refreshing, fizzing delight. Learning the art of successfully keeping a healthy Kombucha Scoby is the beginning of a life transforming attitude towards a healthy gut. These fermented drinks contain beneficial enzymes and nutrients that improve digestion and boost your beneficial gut flora and immunity. Participants receive their own SCOBY, starter liquid and a handout with brewing instructions to take home. Bring a jar!
Surrealism is explored, starting from a favourite animal or creature and evolving into a fantastical creature from another imagined world. Students begin by observing and drawing animals such as elephants, whales dolphins, dinosaurs, cats or mice. We’ll look at Dali’s elongated and exaggerated legs, etc and then get started on their creature. These will be added to backgrounds of inks and dyes that show ‘other worlds’. Students can choose to add them as a collage or re draw them into the landscape. Suitable for ages 6 - 12 years
Students will create soft, pastel landscapes from images of the natural environment and using the dappled painterly effects of Claude Monet. Attention will be given to choices of colours put together, for example 3 x cool colours and 2 x warm. These will be explored using pastels and paint. Suitable for ages 6 - 12 years

During this workshop you will learn about the practices associated with Maori art, creating your own contemporary Toki bone carving, complete with binding and adjustable cord. You will be introduced to a massive new technical skill set through a design process that uses grinders, drills, wet and dry sanding and polishing tools. You will also learn binding and lashing traditions used throughout Polynesia.
What better pieces of art to have than those you make yourself and wear with pride around your neck. In this workshop you will make different shaped ceramic pieces which will end up being both simple and colourful. Once fired and glazed you can combine and create your own unique pieces of jewellery.
Talented local potter, Raewyn, teaches coiling & slab building; pinch pots; working with moulds & experimenting with different styles, textures and finishes. Create sculptural pieces or useful domestic ware. (Wheels are available). Fees cover material for an initial piece. More clay can be bought later in class.

In this advanced workshop, you will learn various colouring and swirling techniques. We will discuss the benefits and properties of different natural additives that can be used in soap making such as herbs, roots, and spices. Participants must know the basics of cold process soap making or have done the basic soap making course.
This introduction to the fascinating and beautiful art of glass fusing will teach you how to safely cut glass and then, using hot glass and diachroic glass, make jewellery of your own design. If there is time, we will also create a unique coaster for your cuppa or glass of tipple. All materials and tools are provided.

Alla Prima means wet paint applied to previous layers of wet paint. We will use this technique to create a realistic style oil painting using photo reference. Alvin will teach you some of the many advantages of painting with oils and using good brushes. Let him simplify the challenge of capturing a likeness for realism in paintings.
In this workshop we’ll use landscape subjects to learn several impressionist techniques. You will then learn how to incorporate these into your own watercolour work. The painting technique fundamental to impressionism is ‘broken color’ which gives the beautiful sensation of light in a painting.

Award-winning artist and illustrator, Ginette, will teach you to use ink pens and watercolour washes to capture a scene quickly while you are travelling. Relaxed and informal sessions include group warm ups, individual coaching and ensemble singing. Each week different individuals will be coached through various exercises and tips to improve technique and lyric portrayal on their chosen songs (masterclass). This allows for individual tuition in a group setting, but also allows students to learn from each other and to experience the joy of singing for an audience. Lessons will end with a contemporary choral piece.
