Pottery for Beginners course Auckland

Pottery for Beginners

Exclusive offer; six wheels, six participants, five sessions!

In this Pottery for Beginners course, you will learn all the foundation principles of how to throw pots on the wheel. Wheelwork is satisfying but can be harder than it looks although very achievable throughout this course. You will learn good skills and then practise, practise, practise to make perfect. Jino will teach clay preparation and wedging and then participants will learn how to centre their clay on the wheel. Correct methods and techniques will be taught so you get you great results.

In the Pottery for Beginners course, you will spend sessions 1, 2 and 3 making and throwing basic cylinders and different round forms. Session 4 will be spent trimming the ‘feet’, the bottom or underside of the vessels you make. Such an important step to creating the perfect vessel. Session 5 is spent on glazing your creations in a simple way through dipping. This is the final part of the process; the artworks then go back in the kiln for firing and then they are ready for you to collect.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • All materials, tools, equipment, and firing are included in the fee.
  • We recommend to participants that they bring an old towel.
  • In the last 5 minutes of class participants clean the wheel they have worked on.
  • Participants will choose their 4 best pieces to be glazed and fired.
  • Name or use a mark to clearly identify your pieces. Alternately or additionally, you can photograph your work and show us images when you collect. If clay pieces are not marked or an image cannot be shown, then the pieces will not be released.
  • Please allow a few weeks for your items to be ready for collection. Our kilns work for a lot of classes and workshops and have limited capacity. Please wait for us to email you, if we haven’t emailed you then your items are not ready for collection.
  • If you do not collect your pieces within one month of receiving the email, we reserve the right to dispose of them. We have limited space to store uncollected items.
