Paint Carving Saturday workshop at UXBRIDGE in Howick.

This paint carving workshop is designed to be an introduction and to try something new and creative and to enjoy. You need no artistic ability to participate in this workshop but if you have some then you can use this to your advantage with the designs and carving.

First, we’ll get started with doing some carving practice, using lines and curvy shapes on soft cutting mats to get you familiar on a draft item. Then the fun begins where each person chooses the design, they like best and get started on your individual piece of art. We will have many different beginner and advanced paint carving designs to choose from.

You will then trace your chosen design onto a pre-prepared art board (10 X 20cm rectangle) and the carving begins. Anna will be carving alongside you all as well so you can see and enjoy all the techniques, she uses to create her beautiful larger pieces of art.

For beginners, it is generally best to start simple when learning new skills. Often simple can create the best results and outcomes you will be happy with.

If you have carved materials before but are new to paint carving, then you can probably choose a more advanced design. Anna will be able to help you choose based on your ability.

WHAT TO BRING?

There is nothing that you need to bring to this workshop.
The fee for the workshop includes all materials necessary to make a 30cm round paint carving, so there’s no need to bring anything.

ABOUT YOUR TUTOR:

Anna says the paint carving process is so therapeutic. 30 layers of Resene Lumbersider paint is applied to a wooden canvas (or oar/paddle) in Anna’s case and then she begins to carve. It’s a true labour of love for sure. Anna designs each piece of art carefully, using her background in Graphic Design to compose balanced arrangements. For her, these are predominantly flowers and native birds, however she has completed a few ocean themed works as well.

Anna Tang is a practicing artist/tutor who exhibits and sells her artworks. To enquire about artworks for sale, contact Anna.

Just attended the paint carving afternoon at Uxbridge. Great fun. The carving was easier than I thought. Everyone produced something beautiful, each different from each other. The tutor was great – showing examples, giving us advice ad making sure we had everything we needed.

Nicola R. (March 2023)
Such a fantastic location for a creative workshop – I loved the Paint Carving workshop I attended over the weekend. Anna was a fantastic tutor, the space is really inspiring and I can’t wait to be back for another workshop soon.
