Welcome to Hooked on Crochet, a fun and creative workshop designed for kids aged 10+. Keen to learn the timeless art of crocheting granny squares? Over the three hours, kids will discover how fun it is to work with yarn and master new skills.
What’s the project?
Children will create a beautiful and unique crochet sleeve project for a phone or 3B1 book/notebook.
What happens in the workshop?
During this workshop, kids will be introduced to the basic crochet stitches, techniques, and tools needed to create granny squares. With the guidance of Portia, your child will learn how to hold a crochet hook, make a slip knot, and create chain stitches. They’ll also learn how to work single, double, and half-double crochet stitches. Then the last step: how to join granny squares together to make the cover.
We will have a variety of colourful yarns for them to choose from. They will learn how to change colours, weave ends and create different designs using basic crochet techniques.
This first project is nice and simple, so children can build their confidence and creativity.
At the end of the workshop, each child will have completed making a few granny squares and stitched them together into the project. They will take away their finished project as well as enough basic skills (and a simple handout to follow!) so they can continue their crochet journey on their own.
