Description

In this Pounamu Carving workshop you will learn about the many practices associated with Māori arts. You will learn the design and carving techniques needed to create your own unique Pounamu marama (moon) taonga and all in this one day workshop. You will use diamond wheels, drills, wet and dry sanding, and polishing tools, to  create a Pounamu pendant under the watchful guidance of artist/tutor Maha Tomo. Once your Pounamu pendant is complete you will learn some traditional Polynesian braiding and lashing techniques to complete the pendant ready to wear. This is a contemporary Tikanga based workshop and suitable for ages 12+
