SUMMARY:Soft Stone Sculpture
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a creative journey into the world of Soft Stone Sculpture guided by the seasoned artisan\, Alasdair Scott. Alasdair has enjoyed a remarkable sculpting career spanning more than 25 years. He has a wealth of knowledge and skills to share with you all. \nThis Soft Stone Sculpture workshop promises to be an enriching experience where you get to craft and mould your own unique piece of art. By the end of the workshop\, you’ll place your masterpiece in a special spot in your garden\, courtyard\, or on your deck. \nHOW SOFT STONE WORKS:\nThe core of this workshop lies in the special blend of sand\, cement\, and vermiculite\, paired with a water-retaining agent. This blend is mixed with water\, then carefully poured into moulds. The curing process\, varying between 5 to 10 hours\, is subject to the weather season. When the workshop commences\, the blocks have solidified to a texture like damp sand\, allowing you to sculpt them using the tools provided. As the workshop progresses\, the blocks begin to solidify; consequently\, you gain opportunities to incorporate intricate touches into your creation. Additionally\, this solidification allows for greater precision and detail in your work. \nDrawing from a wealth of previous workshops\, Alasdair generously provides an array of examples that inspire aspiring sculptors. Alternatively\, you’re encouraged to be creative with your own ideas and design that complements the characteristics of this distinctive medium. \nThe block’s approximate dimensions stand at L 400mm\, W 270mm\, D 80mm\, providing a solid canvas for your carving experience. Though your artwork takes a few days to fully dry\, it will be as sturdy as concrete by the end of the workshop. Its resilience against the elements ensures that it withstands diverse weather conditions\, preserving its beauty through time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBy the end\, you will leave the Soft Stone Sculpture workshop not only with a work of art filled with creative satisfaction but also with a piece you can truly be proud of. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT TO BRING?\nThere is nothing that you need to bring to The Soft Stone workshop\, it’s all included in the fee! \nSome images of the ‘could be’ can be found in the UXBRIDGE pinterest board. \nMay Workshop Video Clip \n  \nPlease note there is NO refund or a transfer if you cancel less than 7 days in advance or once the class/workshop has started. SUMMARY:Kintsugi
DESCRIPTION:Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold. A metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. \nLet’s pick up the pieces and mend them back together in this modern Kintsugi workshop. The art of Kintsugi not only makes this possible but also\, in turn\, celebrates the mend in the most beautiful and obvious way. \nKintsugi\, which loosely translates to ‘golden joinery\,’ is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken objects whether wood\, metal\, or ceramic. Moreover\, it emphasizes beauty in restoration rather than hiding flaws. The techniques of Kintsugi treats the repair as part of the object’s history\, instead of hiding the repair as if it never happened. The ‘flaw’ reveals the history\, and the resulting piece is considered more beautiful. With guidance from tutor Han Nae Kim\, you’ll learn to beautifully piece your broken ceramic back together. \nUrushi is a traditional resin lacquer\, one of the oldest materials used in East Asia to repair damaged objects. First\, we’ll use traditional lacquer and varnish\, then apply gold or silver leaf or gold dust to repair your broken ceramic object. As a result\, the repair becomes a meaningful part of its history. Different techniques and repair materials are used depending on how many cracks or breaks your piece to repair may have. \n  \nTHINGS TO BRING TO KINTSUGI:\nBring your own damaged objects\, along with a container to safely transport curing items. All other materials will be provided.\nNOTE:  While workshop materials are all natural and food-safe\, traditional Urushi lacquer can cause allergic reactions. We will handle it carefully and provide guidance. \n  \nPlease note there is NO refund or a transfer if you cancel less than 7 days in advance or once the class/workshop has started. Our refund policy can be read in full here.
