DESCRIPTION:Oil painting with Alvin will be an exploratory journey of realistic oil painting for students as he shares his knowledge and passion of painting with oils. Alvin speaks English\, Mandarin and Cantonese and welcomes everyone to this course. In this course you will learn the many principles and techniques on how to make your paintings look realistic. \nIf you’re a beginner\, you will get started using photo reference provided by Alvin your tutor. From this you will learn all the ‘need to knows’ while working on your first subject. \nIf you are a continuing student\, you will advance your knowledge and skills by painting your own choice of subjects. \nAlvin uses different references to teach from cats to flowers\, old masters and portraits. If you have a preference once\, you know the basics then he will be happy to continue your learning through practice. \nThere are three methods used to when painting with oils which include: \n-Fat over lean – each successive layer needs to be more flexible than the one underneath\n-Thick over thin – when painting with heavy colour\, it is best to apply thick layers over thin layers\n-Slow drying over fast drying. \nWHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN REALISTIC OIL PAINTING:\n\nhow to get colour values correct\nusing soft\, hard and lost edges\nhow to focus on what is important\nvisible or non-visible brushwork\nhow to copy from an image exactly\nyou will question what you see\n\nWHAT TO BRING:\nOil Painting (English&Mandarin) \nABOUT YOUR TUTOR:\nLet well respected artist/tutor Alvin Xiong share his knowledge and skills on realistic oil painting. DESCRIPTION:This Drawing and Painting class is the step up from our Making Pictures class. It is designed to take our young artists to the next level and help them develop their own style. Amber puts focus on teaching new drawing techniques\, composition and layout to make great art. \nWhat happens in the class:\nThe children will continue to use various mediums such as paints\, pastels\, dyes\, graphite pencils and more. They will create artworks of various sizes too. In this class children will experiment with new fun painting techniques. Using a step by step process\, the tutor will guide children through various projects during the term. They usually complete 3 to 4 projects per terms\, depending on the group’s advancement. Our tutors are both supportive and encourage the students to put their own individual spin into their artwork.\nThis course is all about getting the child to explore and giving them the confidence to develop their own style. \nWhat this class provides:\nFrom our Drawing and Painting class\, kids will gain confidence in their artistic journey in a relaxed environment. The tutors play music in the background\, kids get to draw and paint with other like-minded children and get inspiration from each other. Conversations are encouraged and the course is a solid base for College Art. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a creative journey into the world of Soft Stone Sculpture guided by the seasoned artisan\, Alasdair Scott. Alasdair has enjoyed a remarkable sculpting career spanning more than 25 years. He has a wealth of knowledge and skills to share with you all. \nThis Soft Stone Sculpture workshop promises to be an enriching experience where you get to craft and mould your own unique piece of art. By the end of the workshop\, you’ll place your masterpiece in a special spot in your garden\, courtyard\, or on your deck. \nHOW SOFT STONE WORKS:\nThe core of this workshop lies in the special blend of sand\, cement\, and vermiculite\, paired with a water-retaining agent. This blend is mixed with water\, then carefully poured into moulds. The curing process\, varying between 5 to 10 hours\, is subject to the weather season. When the workshop commences\, the blocks have solidified to a texture like damp sand\, allowing you to sculpt them using the tools provided. As the workshop progresses\, the blocks begin to solidify; consequently\, you gain opportunities to incorporate intricate touches into your creation. Additionally\, this solidification allows for greater precision and detail in your work. \nDrawing from a wealth of previous workshops\, Alasdair generously provides an array of examples that inspire aspiring sculptors. Alternatively\, you’re encouraged to be creative with your own ideas and design that complements the characteristics of this distinctive medium. \nThe block’s approximate dimensions stand at L 400mm\, W 270mm\, D 80mm\, providing a solid canvas for your carving experience. Though your artwork takes a few days to fully dry\, it will be as sturdy as concrete by the end of the workshop. You’ll also learn how to balance positive and negative space for maximum visual impact. With clear\, step-by-step guidance from Ina\, our experienced print artist and tutor\, you’ll transfer your design onto an A5 wooden block and confidently handle specialist carving tools safely and effectively. \nNEXT:\nYou’ll experiment with a variety of carving marks to create texture\, depth\, and expressive lines. As you carve\, you’ll watch your image emerge in reverse. This is a fascinating and essential part of the relief printing process. Along the way\, you’ll strengthen your control of line work\, refine your tool technique\, and prepare your surface for sharp\, successful printing. \nFINALLY:\nYou’ll ink your block and print by hand using a press. You’ll adjust pressure\, refine paper placement\, and manage ink coverage to achieve crisp\, consistent impressions.
