SUMMARY:Kintsugi
DESCRIPTION:Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold. A metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. \nLet’s pick up the pieces and mend them back together in this modern Kintsugi workshop. The art of Kintsugi not only makes this possible but also\, in turn\, celebrates the mend in the most beautiful and obvious way. \nKintsugi\, which loosely translates to ‘golden joinery\,’ is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken objects whether wood\, metal\, or ceramic. Moreover\, it emphasizes beauty in restoration rather than hiding flaws. The techniques of Kintsugi treats the repair as part of the object’s history\, instead of hiding the repair as if it never happened. The ‘flaw’ reveals the history\, and the resulting piece is considered more beautiful. With guidance from tutor Han Nae Kim\, you’ll learn to beautifully piece your broken ceramic back together. \nUrushi is a traditional resin lacquer\, one of the oldest materials used in East Asia to repair damaged objects. First\, we’ll use traditional lacquer and varnish\, then apply gold or silver leaf or gold dust to repair your broken ceramic object. As a result\, the repair becomes a meaningful part of its history. Different techniques and repair materials are used depending on how many cracks or breaks your piece to repair may have. \n  \nTHINGS TO BRING TO KINTSUGI:\nBring your own damaged objects\, along with a container to safely transport curing items. All other materials will be provided.\nNOTE:  While workshop materials are all natural and food-safe\, traditional Urushi lacquer can cause allergic reactions. We will handle it carefully and provide guidance. \n  \nPlease note there is NO refund or a transfer if you cancel less than 7 days in advance or once the class/workshop has started. Our refund policy can be read in full here.

SUMMARY:Yoga with Judy
DESCRIPTION:Join the Yoga with Judy class for your morning yoga fix! \nIn this class Judy Charlesworth guides you to move with your body and connect your mind and emotions along the way. Judy teaches yoga as the art of letting go – helping you lengthen muscles\, create space\, and move mindfully through Asanas. \nYoga invites you to love yourself just as you are – right now – with both your strengths and your challenges. For this reason\, Judy encourages you to take each Asana only as far as it feels right for your body. \nAs you begin\, warming up and moving with awareness\, your muscles gradually loosen\, and your flexibility naturally increases. However\, if you go too deep into a pose\, that’s okay – simply ease out\, take a breath\, and return to your safe edge. \nAt the same time\, keep listening to your body and stay curious about how it responds. After all\, acceptance and awareness go hand in hand in this practice. \nIn truth\, we all bring something different to the mat – maybe a past injury\, tight scar tissue\, or a body shape that affects movement. Whether it’s long arms\, short legs\, or a full bust\, yoga welcomes you exactly as you are\, without judgment. Ultimately\, Judy reminds you that yoga is about showing up honestly\, moving with care\, and working with what your body offers today. \n\nWHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?\nThis class will be enjoyable for beginners as well as people who have already started their yoga practice. This is the ideal class for people who want to work within any constraints their body may present. \nYOUR TUTOR:\nJudy Charlesworth has been with Uxbridge for over ten years and has been teaching for over eighteen years. She even has co-authored a yoga book in the 90s.\nReed more about Judy here. \n  \n\nPlease note:\n\nThere is NO refund or a transfer if you cancel less than 7 days in advance or once the class/workshop has started. Our refund policy can be read in full here.\nIf the tutor is unwell or unavailable to teach a single session\, often at short notice\, it is our preference to find a suitable relief teacher. If we are unable to do this then a session will be added at the end of the advertised course OR a credit voucher or refund for that session will be offered.\nCourse prices may vary slightly between terms depending on the number of sessions (e.g. Term 3 may have 9 sessions\, while Term 4 has 10). SUMMARY:Drawing & Sketching
DESCRIPTION:This Drawing & Sketching class is for kids aged 10 to 15 years. Our tutor is Maree Presnall \, you can visit her art tutoring page here. \nThis course is a fun way to explore realistic drawing and sketching techniques. In this class children will produce a variety of works throughout the term. \nWhat happens in the class?\nIt varies and is never boring\, kids will:\n– Play timed drawing games\n– Draw from still life\n– Draw on mediums other than paper\n– Try new ways to shade\n– Sketch from images of interest or draw from imagination! \nSome lessons may be more guided\, some others we play background music and kids work away on their pieces.\nSometimes the kids enjoy working on a particular project for a number of weeks and sometimes they will produce a finished drawing in one lesson. \nThere is always a lot of variety to keep the interest levels up! Children will learn to look critically at their pieces and may chat with others in the class to share ideas and provide feedback. Sometimes they may not personally like what they have produced\, but other people may\, and there will always be new tips and tricks picked up along the way.\nChildren will have the opportunity to try many new ways of drawing and think creatively. They will be supported\, challenged and encouraged with their love of drawing. \nIs it suitable for all levels?\nAll levels welcome. Maree celebrates each child’s strengths and styles. As she gets to know the children and the group as a whole\, she tailors projects to make them more or less challenging. This class is for kids aged 10 to 15 years. \nAbout Maree’s teaching style:\n“I endeavour to offer a variety of drawing projects so that each child has the opportunity to shine.\nMy main intention is to foster the children’s love of art and help them to feel proud of what they have achieved. I believe these are the two most important parts of my job. I am always happy to field suggestions from the class as to new projects they would like to work on. Each child will have their own strengths and style and I aim to celebrate and foster these while encouraging them to try something new.”\n– Maree Presnall \nIMPORTANT NOTES: \n\nSome course prices can vary between terms depending on the number of sessions (e.g. Term 3 may have 9 sessions\, while Term 4 has 10). SUMMARY:Gentle Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Gentle Yoga: Move Slowly\, Breathe Deeply\, Feel Fully \nIn today’s fast-paced world\, gentle yoga offers a chance to slow down\, tune in\, and reconnect with your body. Unlike fast or intense styles\, gentle yoga focuses on ease\, breath\, and awareness rather than flexibility\, strength\, or performance. More importantly\, this practice encourages you to listen to your body\, explore gentle movements\, and restore physical and mental balance. \nThrough slow\, mindful motion\, you’ll deepen the connection between body and breath\, allowing space for stillness and healing. In addition\, turning inward helps calm the mind\, reduce stress\, and bring your awareness fully into the present moment. \nAbove all\, gentle yoga supports the body\, mind\, and spirit\, helping you return to a sense of wholeness and peace. \nWHO IS GENTLE YOGA FOR:\nGentle Yoga is ideal for older adults\, beginners\, or anyone returning to yoga after injury\, illness\, or a long break.\nIt is also perfect for those who want a slower-paced\, judgement-free yoga class focused on self-care and comfort.\nAll people can benefit from gentle yoga’s calming pace and its emphasis on mindful\, supportive movement. Whether you’re brand new to Yoga or simply need a softer approach\, this class offers a nurturing space to move and breathe. \nWHAT HAPPENS IN GENTLE YOGA:\nEach class blends breathwork\, slow flows\, and supported postures designed to increase flexibility and improve overall wellbeing.\nFirst\, you’ll practice pranayama – working with the breath to ground\, energise\, and prepare the body for mindful movement.\nNext\, slow-flow yoga and poses to gently stretch\, tone\, and strengthen the body without pushing it beyond your limits.\nThen\, core-focused movements help support spinal health\, posture\, and balance – while always remaining gentle and accessible.\nAfterward\, restorative yoga and savasana bring deep calm\, allowing space for stillness\, healing\, and deep nervous system reset. \nTogether\, these elements form a complete practice that restores your energy while gently building strength and flexibility over time. \nMEET YOUR TUTOR:\nJuliet Slogrove\, a registered NZ Yoga Alliance teacher with over 40 years of yoga teaching experience. Juliet believes yoga doesn’t change life’s circumstances\, but it does transform how we experience and respond to everyday challenges. In her words\, “Yoga helps us remember the joy of being\, even when life feels rushed\, heavy\, or overwhelming.” Occasionally\, Sue King may lead the class when Juliet is away; she comes highly recommended and receives great feedback. \n  \nPlease note: \n\nThere is NO refund or a transfer if you cancel less than 7 days in advance or once the class/workshop has started. SUMMARY:Yoga - Restore Rest Renew
DESCRIPTION:Yoga – Restore Rest Renew \nThis nurturing course combines the slow\, mindful movement of Gentle Yoga with the deeply restorative practice of Yoga Nidra to help you unwind\, reconnect\, and restore balance in both body and mind. Throughout each session\, participants slow down\, breathe deeply\, and move freely without pressure\, judgement\, or comparison. \nFirst\, Gentle Yoga links breath with movement through slow flows\, supported stretches\, and longer-held postures that improve flexibility\, mobility\, posture\, and strength. Participants tune inward\, develop greater body awareness\, and build strength in a safe and supportive way. In addition\, classes include pranayama (breathwork) and restorative practices that encourage stillness\, calm\, and ease. \nThen\, the second half of the session introduces Yoga Nidra\, often called “yogic sleep\,” a guided meditation practice that encourages deep physical\, mental\, and emotional relaxation. Yoga Nidra welcomes everyone and requires no previous yoga or meditation experience. Through gentle guidance\, participants enter a restful state between waking and sleeping\, allowing the body to deeply relax while the mind resets and restores. \nHave we captured your attention yet? \nAs a result\, this course suits older adults\, beginners\, those returning to movement after injury or illness\, and anyone seeking a gentler\, more restorative approach to yoga. Furthermore\, the programme particularly supports people experiencing stress\, anxiety\, fatigue\, poor sleep\, or the ongoing demands of a busy life. \nExperienced tutor Juliet Slogrove\, a NZ Yoga Alliance registered teacher and accredited iRest® Yoga Nidra teacher\, leads the programme with warmth and compassion\, creating a welcoming environment where students can nurture mind\, body\, and spirit. \nWHAT TO BRING:\nPlease wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat\, cushion\, or eye cover if you wish. We provide blankets and bolsters to help you feel supported and relaxed throughout the session. image \nMEET YOUR TUTOR:\nJuliet Slogrove\, a registered NZ Yoga Alliance teacher with over 40 years of yoga teaching experience.
SUMMARY:Yoga with Cherie
DESCRIPTION:Yoga is timeless: it has evolved over thousands of years and works on the physical\, mental\, and spiritual well-being of the person. Cherie leads a traditional Indian yoga class which incorporates postures\, breathing and deep relaxation techniques. \nDuring this course\, everyone will progress at their own pace and level in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Cherie strives to keep the class especially interesting and challenging and also encouraging each step of the way whatever level you want to work at. We welcome all levels of fitness. \nThere are several differences between Indian and western yoga practices. (Hatha) Indian yoga is treated as a lifelong journey of practice. In the western world\, Vinyasa yoga is often used for maintaining your health. Of course\, generally both Yoga styles help with this! \nWHAT IS HATHA YOGA?\nYou move your body slowly and deliberately flowing into different poses that will challenge your strength and flexibility while focusing on relaxing and mindfulness. Generally Hatha Yoga places emphasis on controlled breathing and posture and building core strength\, which is key to good posture. Poses are usually held for several breaths before you move onto the next. \nWHAT IS VINYASA YOGA?\nVinyasa is an approach to yoga in which you move from one pose directly into the next. It is flowing and the specific poses and pace of the flow is dependant on the teacher. Vinyasa moves from one pose to the next as the teacher guides and coordinates your breathing. Breath is very important. As you exhale or inhale it gives you the feeling that your breath is moving your body. \nIN A NUTSHELL – yoga is good for you!\nHatha and Vinyasa yoga incorporate many of the same poses. The main difference is the pacing of the classes. Vinyasa Yoga moves at a faster pace and requires greater breathing control. Hatha is done more slowly\, and poses are held for longer\, Hatha yoga allows for more stretching. Hatha and Vinyasa yoga share many of the same poses. In their own ways\, they each emphasize controlled\, conscious breathing to help you relax and improve your fitness. The biggest difference between them is the pace at which you change from one pose to the next. \nPlease note: \n\nThere is NO refund or a transfer if you cancel less than 7 days in advance or once the class/workshop has started. This is usually due to public holidays or long weekends.
