Most importantly\, you experience the satisfaction of making something with your own hands. \nThroughout the day\, you’ll choose your project and bring it to life. Options include a knife sheath or multitool case\, wallet\, dog collar\, or a set of coasters. If you’re feeling ambitious\, you can also discuss a slightly larger project with Fern (additional leather costs may apply). \nFrom the outset\, you’ll move through the full leatherworking process. First\, you’ll draft your pattern. Next\, you’ll cut\, assemble\, stitch\, and finish your piece using traditional techniques. Along the way\, leather artisan Fern Reid shares her knowledge and practical expertise. She introduces different leather types and qualities\, demonstrates essential tools\, and explains how to care for your finished item. Step by step\, you build skills\, confidence\, and precision. \nBy the end of the day\, you won’t just leave with a handcrafted piece – you’ll leave proud of what you’ve achieved. Then\, using a step-by-step process\, they will learn essential layout and composition principles. Additionally\, they will develop new techniques with paintbrushes and sponges to expand their creative skills. DESCRIPTION:Oil painting with Alvin will be an exploratory journey of realistic oil painting for students as he shares his knowledge and passion of painting with oils. Alvin speaks English\, Mandarin and Cantonese and welcomes everyone to this course. In this course you will learn the many principles and techniques on how to make your paintings look realistic. \nIf you’re a beginner\, you will get started using photo reference provided by Alvin your tutor. From this you will learn all the ‘need to knows’ while working on your first subject. \nIf you are a continuing student\, you will advance your knowledge and skills by painting your own choice of subjects. \nAlvin uses different references to teach from cats to flowers\, old masters and portraits. DESCRIPTION:The difference between drawing and sketching is in the detail. Sketching is artistic\, free\, and has very few constraints. It is the outline of a concept\, like taking a picture as reference. Drawing is refined and advanced\, something we do with extra attention. It is filling in the detail. \nSketching allows you to experiment\, it helps you see what lines you need to compose an authentic illustration of what you’re drawing. For beginners\, sketching is an important step as you want your illustrations to be as accurate as possible. Beginners can skip this step if they use photo reference as students will be in this course. Advanced artists often skip sketching and using photo referencing as they have the image stored in their mind. In this instance they would start sketching a drawing without circles or lines and move into drawing its contour and detail immediately. \nWhen you sketch\, you press your pencil softly on the paper\, so you can correct mistakes easily. \nWhen you draw\, it is thorough\, meticulous\, and precise. Drawing is the stage when you start to give your sketch a more pronounced form and you add the details like shading\, texture\, colour\, and value. When you draw\, it is committing\, every stroke is darker\, and applied with strength making errors difficult to correct. At the drawing stage\, you use your reference sketch lines to help keep good proportion and shape. \nDrawing feels more like a plan and sketching more like something spontaneous. \nIn this course we will be using photo reference instead of sketching with beginners as this way we can move straight into the drawing process and detail. \nWhether your preference is for landscape\, portraits\, architecture\, or still life Alvin will guide you and share his knowledge on how to achieve your desired results with your drawing subject. \nFirst\, we’ll use photo references to shape your realistic drawings. You will learn about outline\, texture\, shape correction\, lighting\, and shading. Wheelwork is satisfying but can be harder than it looks although very achievable throughout this course. You will learn good skills and then practise\, practise\, practise to make perfect. Jino will teach clay preparation and wedging and then participants will learn how to centre their clay on the wheel. Correct methods and techniques will be taught so you get you great results. \nIn the Pottery for Beginners course\, you will spend sessions 1\, 2 and 3 making and throwing basic cylinders and different round forms. Session 4 will be spent trimming the ‘feet’\, the bottom or underside of the vessels you make. Such an important step to creating the perfect vessel. Session 5 is spent on glazing your creations in a simple way through dipping. Inspired by the iconic long-legged elephants of Salvador Dalí. In this imaginative\, hands-on papier-mâché experience\, children will design and build their very own towering elephant balanced on elegant\, stilt-like legs. \nDesigned especially for children aged 8+\, this engaging workshop is guided step-by-step by our experienced and supportive tutor\, Maree. Young artists will begin by learning essential sculpture techniques before exploring armature construction and papier-mâché layering to bring their surreal elephant to life. \nIn the first session\, children will carefully construct their elephant from scratch\, focusing on proportion\, balance\, and structure. With its tall\, slender legs and strong yet graceful body\, each sculpture will capture the magical\, gravity-defying feeling that makes Dalí’s work so fascinating. Along the way\, students will explore form\, stability\, and creative problem-solving while building a truly eye-catching piece. \nOnce the sculptures have dried\, the second session shifts to painting and personal expression. Children will decorate their elephants using bold colours\, expressive patterns\, and imaginative details. They might choose earthy desert tones\, shimmering metallic accents\, or vibrant surreal hues\, allowing each long-legged elephant to reflect their unique vision. \nThis workshop is perfect for children who love art\, building\, and thinking outside the box. It encourages patience\, resilience\, creativity\, and confidence while introducing young artists to the exciting world of surrealism in an age-appropriate way. \nEach child will take home their own handmade long-legged elephant sculpture.
