SUMMARY:Granny Square Crochet
DESCRIPTION:Join avid crocheter Portia in this Granny Square Crochet workshop and learn the basics of crochet by making your first Granny Squares! \nGranny squares got their name as this used to be how ‘Granny” made a quick and simple crocheted blanket. In more recent times\, creatives\, including Portia have reshaped and modernised the items that can be made the squares. Realising through clever design that contemporary items can be made easily using different colour combinations in the granny squares. Don’t forget to check out our pinterest board for inspiration. \nCrochet is something beginners can learn quickly. A big advantage of making granny squares for your items is you can crochet without having to lug the ‘in progress’ item around with you. \nIn this Granny Square Crochet workshop you will focus on making the squares and getting the technique right\, as well as knowing your materials. \n  \nTHINGS TO BRING:\n\n3-4 balls of 100g 8ply acrylic yarn (or 8ply cotton of the equivalent if you prefer)\n1 x 4.00mm crochet hook\nscissors\n\n  \nINSPIRATION: \nCheck out our Pinterest inspo board\, it will get you inspired to continue creating. \n  \nWHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY ABOUT PORTIA:\nCarol-Ann T. SUMMARY:Kintsugi
DESCRIPTION:Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold. A metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. \nLet’s pick up the pieces and mend them back together in this modern Kintsugi workshop. The art of Kintsugi not only makes this possible but also\, in turn\, celebrates the mend in the most beautiful and obvious way. \nKintsugi\, which loosely translates to ‘golden joinery\,’ is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken objects whether wood\, metal\, or ceramic. Moreover\, it emphasizes beauty in restoration rather than hiding flaws. The techniques of Kintsugi treats the repair as part of the object’s history\, instead of hiding the repair as if it never happened. The ‘flaw’ reveals the history\, and the resulting piece is considered more beautiful. With guidance from tutor Han Nae Kim\, you’ll learn to beautifully piece your broken ceramic back together. \nUrushi is a traditional resin lacquer\, one of the oldest materials used in East Asia to repair damaged objects. First\, we’ll use traditional lacquer and varnish\, then apply gold or silver leaf or gold dust to repair your broken ceramic object. As a result\, the repair becomes a meaningful part of its history. Different techniques and repair materials are used depending on how many cracks or breaks your piece to repair may have. \n  \nTHINGS TO BRING TO KINTSUGI:\nBring your own damaged objects\, along with a container to safely transport curing items. All other materials will be provided.\nNOTE:  While workshop materials are all natural and food-safe\, traditional Urushi lacquer can cause allergic reactions. We will handle it carefully and provide guidance. \n  \nPlease note there is NO refund or a transfer if you cancel less than 7 days in advance or once the class/workshop has started. Our refund policy can be read in full here.

SUMMARY:Meditative Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Meditative Drawing using Natural Dyes \nJoin us for a transformative one-day workshop\, where you’ll explore the therapeutic power of meditative drawing using natural dyes. Throughout this session\, you will learn effective techniques to relax\, boost focus\, and clear both stress and creative blocks. Whether you’re working through grief\, emotional pain\, or simply seeking a calming outlet\, this workshop offers the perfect space for healing and self-expression. \nGuided by Vanessa Narbey\, MFA\, you’ll explore natural materials such as vegetable dyes from coffee\, spices\, vegetables\, and teas. Additionally\, you will work with charcoal and pencils to create fluid lines\, textured marks\, and organic patterns\, allowing creativity to flow freely. Moreover\, Vanessa combines intuitive abstraction with meditation and Reiki\, offering a unique and mindful drawing experience. \nShe will gently guide you to let go of expectations\, so you can fully connect with your creativity. As a result\, you’ll discover how art serves as a powerful tool for emotional release\, growth\, and exploration. This workshop suits anyone looking to relax\, improve focus\, and tap into intuitive creativity. \nNo prior drawing experience is necessary; however\, all you need is an open mind and a willingness to explore new artistic techniques. By the end\, you’ll leave with your own unique artwork and the skills to continue your practice at home. So\, sign up today and experience the soothing benefits of meditative drawing with natural dyes! \nTHINGS TO BRING:\nWe provide all materials so there are no things to bring for this workshop.
