Yoga with Jacqui

Yoga is timeless: it has evolved over thousands of years and works on the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of the person. Jacqui leads a traditional Indian yoga class which incorporates postures, breathing and deep relaxation techniques.

During this course, everyone will progress at their own pace and level in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Jacqui strives to keep the class especially interesting and challenging and also encouraging each step of the way whatever level you want to work at. We welcome all levels of fitness.

There are several differences between Indian and western yoga practices. (Hatha) Indian yoga is treated as a lifelong journey of practice. In the western world, Vinyasa yoga is often used for maintaining your health.  Of course, generally both Yoga styles help with this!

WHAT IS HATHA YOGA?

You move your body slowly and deliberately flowing into different poses that will challenge your strength and flexibility while focusing on relaxing and mindfulness. Generally Hatha Yoga places emphasis on controlled breathing and posture and building core strength, which is key to good posture. Poses are usually held for several breaths before you move onto the next.

WHAT IS VINYASA YOGA?

Vinyasa is an approach to yoga in which you move from one pose directly into the next. It is flowing and the specific poses and pace of the flow is dependant on the teacher. Vinyasa moves from one pose to the next as the teacher guides and coordinates your breathing. Breath is very important. As you exhale or inhale it gives you the feeling that your breath is moving your body.

IN A NUTSHELL – yoga is good for you!

Hatha and Vinyasa yoga incorporate many of the same poses. The main difference is the pacing of the classes.   Vinyasa Yoga moves at a faster pace and requires greater breathing control. Hatha is done more slowly, and poses are held for longer, Hatha yoga allows for more stretching. Hatha and Vinyasa yoga share many of the same poses. In their own ways, they each emphasize controlled, conscious breathing to help you relax and improve your fitness. The biggest difference between them is the pace at which you change from one pose to the next.
