What’s the perfect recipe for unforgettable story nights? Take a handful of little munchkins, aged 2-8, slip them into some comfy jammies, add a dash of blanket and a smidge of soft toy, wrap them all up in music and blend the lot together with masterful storytelling and gentle fun. ROOTS

Roots, written by Oliver Chong, is one woman’s fascinating quest to find her familial identity in Singapore’s cultural melting pot. Digging up ghosts of the past, and filled with absurd, surprising and strangely familiar characters, we follow Singaporean-Kiwi actress Amanda Grace Leo’s attempts to reclaim her ancestry and shake the ‘Cultural Orphan’ status common in that country. With parallels to New Zealand’s immigrant identities and barriers to belonging, Roots is a universal story of the joys and hardships of discovering who you are. Presented in English and Mandarin subtitles for this New Zealand premier, join us for a special, heart-warming bilingual Chinese New Year presentation.
