Named after the late local architect, community stalwart, and founding member of UXBRIDGE in 1981, Malcolm Smith Gallery is a contemporary art space for the eastern suburbs of Auckland. Harnessing a belief in the transformative power of art, and through a range of contemporary art exhibitions which inspire and challenge its audiences, the Gallery strives to encourage dialogue, foster creativity, and explore meaningful new ideas with insight, imagination, and intelligence.
Public engagement with contemporary art, artists, and ideas is at the core of the Gallery’s exhibition-making practice, because it strives to make contemporary art not only accessible but relevant to people from all walks of life. Seeking synergies between the local and the global, Malcolm Smith Gallery foregrounds projects engaging with contemporary discourses in art and related fields reflective of the best in national work, thereby developing the practice and appreciation of contemporary art in East Auckland.
If you have an interest in contemporary art, or would simply like to know more about the exhibitions at Malcolm Smith Gallery, join us once a month for a lively discussion and tour of what is on display. All sessions begin at 11.30am. Free to attend, all welcome.
