Despite an early and lasting fascination with scent, Vanessa York spent quite a few years as a children’s book editor in the education publishing industry before realizing that her true path was a very different one. Accordingly, she became a student of natural perfumery, working with some excellent teachers before setting out to follow her own nose. “Working with the essences is very uplifting, and addictive,” she says. “For me, natural perfumery epitomises Keats’ lovely, much-debated line that ‘beauty is truth, and truth, beauty’. It sounds so simple. But it isn’t really, and therein lies endless fascination.” Vanessa now runs her own boutique botanical perfumery. She enjoys sharing her passion for her art with others.
